A Week in Kourtnee's World, Lil Day, the Tour, and Some Lotion

7-15-97, 8:10 AM

I was in Kourtnee's office. I was a filing the stack of papers that Kourtnee had given me to file. I wanted to take a break. I told Kourtnee that I was going to take a break. She laughed as she said, "You have been here all of 25 minutes and you already need to take a break." I responded, "I think it's later than it is because someone set my clock up an hour." Kourtnee laughed as I walked out of the office.

I took a 20-minute break. I went touring the office building. I found out what was on each floor except the eighth floor, the Information Systems floor. The lobby was on the first floor. The marketing department was on the second floor. When I walked onto the second floor, I saw Greg. He smiled at me. He asked what I was doing on his floor. I said nothing and left the floor. The Human Resources Department was on the third floor. The Productivity Department was on the fourth floor. I saw Mr. Ruelas when I stepped off the elevator. He nodded at me and walked by. The fifth floor housed the Accounting department. The Legal Department was on the sixth floor. The Skin Care Division was on the ninth floor. I saw the young guy who Greg was playing pool with the other day. He saw me and walked over to me. "Hey Lil Day! What are you doing wandering around here?" he asked. I stared at him strangely and replied, "My name is LaDawnya. Why did you call me Lil Day?" He responded, "Since you beat Greg, every time I see you, my day will be a little brighter." I giggled as I said, "That was so corny." He smiled as a woman walked up to him and said something about the bottle in her hand. She called him Armand. He turned to me and said to the lady, "Let's ask Lil Day what she thinks about this. Here smell this." He handed me the bottle. I smelled it. It smelled like pears. I said, "It smells good." He said, "Put some on your hands." I was hesitant at first. I didn't know if I would have a reaction to the lotion or not. I decided to try just a little of the lotion. Both Armand and the lady were staring at me. I squirted some of the lotion in my hand. I guess it wasn't enough because he took the bottle from me and squeezed a whole bunch of the lotion in my hand. I cringed, and then I rubbed the lotion in my hands and on my arms. I was praying the whole time. The lotion was a good consistency. It smelled good and it had a good texture. I said, "It feels nice. It has a good consistency and texture." The woman smiled and said, "Armand, how much did you pay her?" Armand smiled as he said, "Didn't pay her a thing. She just knows good quality." The lady took the bottle from me and walked off. Armand said, "What is your mother gonna think when I tell her we have a new product tester?" I looked at my watch and yelled, "Oh my goodness, I gotta go. Bye." Armand said, "Bye, Lil Day."

I went back down to the seventh floor. I would have to wait to find out what was on the last three floors. I walked into Kourtnee's office, walked right over to the filing cabinets, and began filing. I did not make eye contact with Kourtnee. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Kourtnee get up from her desk and walk towards me. Kourtnee stood beside me and asked, "Where have you been?" I looked at my hands. Kourtnee asked me the same question again. I said, "No where. I was just walking around." I still hadn't looked at Kourtnee. She handed me a stack of messages. I took the messages and looked at them. There was one from Greg, Mr. Ruelas, Gilda Chambers, and someone named Tracy. I looked up at Kourtnee. She put her hands on her hips and stared at me. I gave her a big kool-aid smile. She didn't move. I walked over to her, hugged her, and told her that I loved her. She looked down at me. I smiled. She hugged me back and told me to get back to work. I went back to filing. Kourtnee went back to her desk.

The phone rung. Kourtnee answered it. Kourtnee called my name and asked, "Who is Lil Day?' I walked over to the desk and said, "That's what Armand calls me." Kourtnee smiled and handed me the phone. After I said hello, Armand said, "I need you to come down here and fill out a product survey form." I said, "Ok." We said bye. I hung up the phone.

Kourtnee looked at me and said, "Are you giving out my phone number?" I looked down at the floor and said, "No, mame." She asked, "What is wrong with you? What did Armand want?" I played with my thumb. Kourtnee rose from her desk and walked over to me. She put her hand on my chin and raised my head up. She asked, "What is wrong?"

I didn't want to tell her that I had put some lotion on my hands. I had not had a reaction to the lotion yet, but I was still scared. Kourtnee interrupted my thoughts when she said, "LaDawnya, I asked you what was wrong. I expect and answer." I finally said, "Armand asked me to try some lotion and I did." Kourtnee sat on the edge of her desk. She said, "Let me see you hands." I held out my hands. She inspected my hands thoroughly. She asked, "Are they hurting?" I shook my head no. She asked, "Are they itching?" I shook my head no. She asked, "Are they stinging?" I shook my head no. She asked, "What did Armand want?" I said, "He wants me to fill out a product survey form." She said, "Go ahead and fill out the form. Come right back here after you fill it out! I mean it. Right back up here." I walked to the door. I stopped, turned, and looked at Kourtnee. She had her head down reading some papers. I left Kourtnee's office to head for the ninth floor.
